Monitor Tips:

Your PC is only as good as the display showing it off:

  • Match PC power to monitor specs: Buying an RTX 5080/4080 PC to play on an old 1080p 60Hz office screen is a waste of money.

  • Sweet spot screen: A 27-inch 1440p (QHD) monitor with a 144Hz–240Hz refresh rate offers the best balance of sharpness and fluid movement for most users.

Master the Tech Lingo

Day 1 Setup

Once you receive or build your PC, avoid these classic rookie mistakes:

  1. Plug your monitor into the GPU, NOT the motherboard: Connect your HDMI/DisplayPort cable directly to the horizontal GPU slots midway down the back, not the vertical ports near the top motherboard I/O.

  2. Enable High Refresh Rate in Windows: Windows defaults monitors to 60Hz. Go to Settings > Display > Advanced Display and set your refresh rate to max.

  3. Enable XMP / EXPO in BIOS: RAM often runs at base speed out of the box (e.g., 4800 MHz). Turn on XMP (Intel) or EXPO (AMD) in the BIOS to get the fast speed you paid for.
